librarybuildings.ie aims to provide comprehensive and readily accessible information about local authority public library buildings in Ireland. The project is concentrating on two facets of public library design: libraries recently opened and libraries in heritage buildings. Public libraries in heritage buildings and buildings of architectural merit which have received grant-aid have also been included.
An Chomhairle Leabharlanna manages librarybuildings.ie with the advice and assistance of an advisory committee, with the following representation:

* In 1998, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Mr Noel Dempsey T.D. launched Branching Out: A New Public Library Service. This database gives details of all libraries co-funded by local authorities and the Minister under the Branching Out programme to date.
