Oranmore Library is located in a converted pre-famine Roman Catholic church, St. Mary's, built c.1803. It is a category 1 listed building. The stained glass windows have been retained and restored. The building is cruciform-shaped, with a belfry and large windows. The façade is of undecorated render and stone. The interior is that of a traditional church; a single open space with open timber roof structure. The library is located on the ground floor, while office space and book storage are at mezzanine level. There is also a side gallery.

St. Mary's was used as a church until the early 1970s when a larger church was built. Much of the restoration work was undertaken by FÁS with support from local community groups. Funding for the restoration of St Mary's Church was received from National Heritage Council, Coillte Teoranta and The Irish-American Partnership. |
