Dunshaughlin Library is built in a converted pre-famine Catholic Church, St. Patrick's, built c.1810. The church building was remodelled c.1880, and renovated c.1940 by Ralph Byrne. The Church became disused in 1986.
The building retains features of the original church such as stained glass windows and cast-iron finials. The imposing entrance gable of rock-faced limestone and dressed in ashlar limestone, was added c.1880. There is a famine cauldron from a soup kitchen (1847-1849) in the church grounds. The graveyard is located to the South.
